It is embedded in the European Eco-design Regulation (ESPR). Numerous projects are currently underway to make this key element of the Twin Transition more concrete and standardized. The Digital Product Passport is often described as a sort of \u201ccertified resume of a product.\u201d The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (Bundesministerium f\u00fcr Umwelt, Naturschutz, nukleare Sicherheit und Verbraucherschutz, BMUV) uses the following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmuv.de\/faq\/was-ist-ein-digitaler-produktpass\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> definition<\/a>   : \u201cThe Digital Product Passport is a dataset that summarizes the components, materials, and chemical substances or information about repairability, spare parts, or proper disposal for a product. The data come from all phases of the product lifecycle and can be used in all these phases for various purposes (design, manufacturing, usage, disposal).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To make this more tangible, consider this example: If you&#8217;re getting your garden ready for spring, you might also clean your gas grill or lawnmower. Take a closer look at the device. How many \u2013 large and small \u2013 components does it consist of? Are they all produced by one manufacturer? At the same location? Are there wearing parts or consumables? Do you have the instruction manual to hand? What about the warranty? All these questions can be answered with a few clicks using a Digital Product Passport.
