4 Tips: Reduce time-to-market for IoT projects

Increasingly complex IoT projects lead to longer project durations. As a result, the added value of the Internet of Things can only be unfolded at a later date. Find out here how you can counteract this trend and shorten your time-to-market.

Time-to-Market

The increasing number of successfully completed IoT projects shows that the Internet of Things not only opens up new business areas, but also leads to greater efficiency and cost savings.

No wonder then that the Internet of Things is playing an increasingly important role in the German economy. According to the IDG study “Internet of Things 2019”, 51 percent of companies currently rate IoT as relevant or highly relevant. The number of IoT projects has in fact doubled since the previous year.

However, the duration of IoT projects can often be very long – a continuing trend. Marten Schirge, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Device Insight, recently presented in an expert article in Computerwoche (in German) how companies can effectively shorten their time-to-market with four tips. Here’s a summary of the most important points.

1. Put the customer first

Pay attention to a sustainable business model and keep an eye on the requirements, in other words, the customers and their needs. “Even if the company is initially focusing on an IoT platform, it should not only concentrate on the technical side. Instead, the functions of such a platform must be tailored to well thought-out use cases,” advises Schirge. If the customer is involved in the development of an IoT platform right from the start, they will be happy to work with it.

2. Stick to what you know

Keep your experiments to yourself. It’s often more effective to use existing standards and offers that have already proven themselves in practice. Established IoT platforms, such as CENTERSIGHT, offer a wide range of ready-to-use functions that you can put to immediate use. This also speeds up the roll-out. You can continue to build on it and customize the platform for the needs of your company.

3. Ensure openness and interoperability

An open IoT platform has many advantages. Various machines and systems can be connected in a standardized way and the development of apps is also easier. With interoperable solutions that connect devices from different industries, you can save costs, stabilize systems and use resources more efficiently. In addition, IoT projects can also be better scaled in the long term, without reaching their technical limits after just one or two years.

4. Avoid organizational hurdles

IoT projects are complex – it takes an average of 18 months to create a market-ready solution. If you proceed in a structured manner and take the four tips presented to heart, you will be able to achieve success more quickly and benefit from them.

To conclude

IoT projects are complex and take an average of 18 months until a marketable solution is in place. If you proceed in a structured way and take the four tips presented to heart, you can achieve success more quickly and reap the benefits.
